22.01.2008

In December 2007, the company RASCOM accomplished works to up-grade its commercial IP network. In the course of implementing the project, interfaces to Russian and foreign networks have been extended up to 11 Gbps. The bandwidth of the backbone IP network at the route Moscow - Saint-Petersburg has been extwended, too, by assigniung two additional wavelengths in the DWDM system. Each wavelength has added 10 Gbps to the IP network bandwidth at this section and widened the capacity achiervable to 20 Gbps.
Beside that, within the frames of the up-grade project, at Moscow and Saint-Petersburg nodes of Rascom network, CISCO 7600 routers have been installed to switch traffic streams of up to 720 Gbps.
At the direction Stockholm - Frankfurt, additional capacity has been activated, too. This permitted to increase the reachable bandwidth for VPN services up to 8 Gbps at this direction.
After the up-grade thus accomplished, the company's IP network has even higher overload capability and IP packet transport delay has significantly decreased.
As V.I.KIreev, RASCOM General Director said:"Investments into IP network up-grade in 2007 were equal to more than 2 Mln USDollars. While approving the investment volume for the project, we were aiming at the company's forecast that said the customer traffic on our network would keep doubling from year to year."
